Selected Region:

Artificial Intelligence brings to mind supercomputer assistants, machines capable of creative thinking, or even scenes from one’s favorite science fiction movies. While the reality may not be as futuristic, it’s not far off. AI refers to the ability of computers or machines to mimic human cognitive abilities, typically learning from past experiences to understand and respond to language, decision-making, and problems. The AI technology market is vast — expected to reach around $244 billion by 2025, and projected to grow dramatically to over $800 billion by 2030.

Different Forms of AI

AI is broadly categorized into machine learning and deep learning. These, in turn, include subcategories such as natural language processing, computer vision, robotics, and more. Machine learning is the most basic and simplest form of AI. Programs based on machine learning are given a set of defined parameters for interacting with humans, and they operate within a limited scope. It is also the most common form of AI, used in basic chatbots, apps, voice commands, and other limited interactions.

Deep learning more closely resembles what many imagine AI to be. In deep learning programs, AI is given initial parameters and datasets but can integrate user information during interactions. In this way, the AI learns continuously during use, becoming more sophisticated over time. Recent examples of advanced deep learning programs include OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini.

The Rise of Generative AI

By the end of 2022, generative AI became a major focus. While not entirely new — such tools had existed for several years — the pace of development has been remarkable. Generative AI refers to programs that can generate text, images, music, and more. Fueled by the launch of ChatGPT at the end of 2022, the field attracted attention from Google, Microsoft, Amazon, and Elon Musk’s X. All are racing through startups to develop the most advanced generative AI. However, this progress hasn’t come without controversy: generative AI companies have been accused of training their models on copyrighted texts and images, sidelining writers and artists.

As of 2025, a new development in generative AI is the emergence of powerful agentic AI — more capable models that can assist with in-depth research beyond the capacity of older systems. These use complex reasoning and iterative planning to solve sophisticated problems. The market is expected to grow exponentially between 2025 and 2030.

The AI Train Keeps Moving

With advances in deep learning and machine learning and the massive potential impact on the global economy, it is foreseeable that AI will continue to grow competitively across all developed economies. Any company hoping to stay ahead of the curve must engage early — or risk falling behind.
